The Route 29 Widening Phase II Design-Build Project is currently in progress, aimed at alleviating congestion and improving safety along a 1.5-mile segment between Union Mill Road and Buckleys Gate Drive by expanding the roadway from four to six lanes. This project addresses a significant bottleneck at the Stringfellow/Clifton Roads (Route 645) intersection and enhances sight distance through vertical alignment corrections. It also includes the addition of shared-use paths on both sides of Route 29, improving pedestrian and bicyclist connectivity to trails at the Fairfax County Parkway/West Ox Road interchange. Serving an average of 30,000 vehicles daily, the project will reduce congestion, enhance safety and operations, improve access management, and promote multimodal transportation. Delivered through a design-build approach, this project ensures streamlined coordination between design and construction, facilitating timely and efficient project completion.
